![]() Shifty has been known to betray Lifty at some points, as seen in Milkin' It when Shifty threw Lifty out of a hot air balloon as not to get caught by a power line. Like most siblings, Shifty argues with his brother about who is at fault it is when something goes wrong, but when trouble is afoot, they work together. They also have a trademark evil snicker (usually a different one for later episodes). Despite the smirks on their faces, they almost always end up dying in the episodes in which they appear. Shifty has a tendency to abandon his brother.Īlthough they have the same gender, appearance, and personality, Shifty wears a fedora and often bosses Lifty around. They probably rob Lumpy so frequently because his lack of intelligence and common sense makes him an easy target. They mostly steal from Lumpy (in Meat Me for Lunch they steal meat from Lumpy's deli mart, in Milkin' It they steal a cow from Lumpy's farm, in Concrete Solution they steal his wallet, and in Junk in the Trunk they abduct his pet elephant). They also hunt for treasure, ransack houses, or do anything to get rich quick. They frequently steal merchandise and produce from the other Happy Tree Friends (thus their names). HTF was willing to brutally torture Sniffles for entire episodes and deal out vicious deaths to characters like Petunia (literal death by suicide in Wishy Washy) and even adorable little Cub, so for them to not show Flaky's murder tells me it must have been really bad.Shifty and his brother Lifty are two green kleptomaniac raccoon identical twin brothers with dark green mask-like markings around their eyes. I can't think of any other murder method so dark that it wouldn't be shown on HTF. And it took them hours to finish the job. I believe Flaky was either beaten or tortured to death by Flippy, with the others contributing in a lesser way. Personally, given the time of day passing from what appeared to be sunset to suddenly the middle of the night, implies that Flaky's murder took a while, and was not quick in any way. The show intentionally leaves it up to the viewer's imagination as to just how Flaky was murdered, and whether only Flippy killed her or if the others assisted him in some way. The smash cut to Flippy pounding a cross into her grave, however, is much funnier instead. IMO, this implies that the murder of Flaky was apparently so dark and probably dragged out that it would not have been funny to watch, rather it would have just been off-putting and uncomfortable even by HTF standards, hence there was no need to show it. Flaky is never seen again for the remainder of the episode. Smash cut to Flippy, now at night time, laughing evilly as he pounds a cross into what we can safely assume is Flaky's grave, as the other survivors (ominously appearing as dark silhouettes with eyes only) look on with evil expressions. Flaky glances back nervously at the other survivors and chuckles nervously, as they all give her ominous glares of death. ![]() Back at shore, exhausted from the swim, Flaky, Flippy, Lumpy, Handy, and Sniffles catch their breath. A shark immediately appears and chases our tree friends a short distance back to the island, however Lifty and Shifty are eaten by the shark. At sea, things go well at first, until Flaky unknowingly pops the raft with one of her quills, quickly sinking it. ![]() As our few surviving tree friends (Lumpy, Flippy, Lifty, Shifty, Handy, Sniffles, and Flaky) struggle to find a way off the island they are stranded on, Lifty and Shifty pull out an inflatable raft for everyone to escape on. But one particular offscreen death sticks out: Offscreen deaths aren't uncommon throughout the series, usually they happen in the form of a car crash, or a blast just barely seen off to the side, or some other way - usually unceremoniously and without any real significance.
